Shopify Update: Control Your Cart Quantities

Shopify Update: Control Your Cart Quantities

Shopify recently introduced an important update that helps you better manage your store’s inventory visibility and protect sensitive inventory information from customers.

What’s New?

When customers previously tried to add more of a product to their cart than what was available in inventory, Shopify automatically adjusted the quantity to match your available stock. However, this adjustment inadvertently revealed exact inventory levels to customers, potentially compromising your business insights.

To address this, Shopify now provides a new setting allowing store owners to set a maximum purchase quantity per product for online orders.

Key Benefits:

  • Enhanced Inventory Privacy: Prevent customers from discovering your precise inventory levels.
  • Control Order Quantities: Define maximum purchase limits per product to better manage stock and customer expectations.
  • Customizable Settings: Adjust the limits easily according to your inventory strategy or promotional plans.

How It Works:

Shopify automatically determines and sets an initial limit for your store based on your historical order data, ensuring a buffer for future orders. For newer stores with fewer than 250 orders, a default limit of 50 units per item is applied.

You can view and customize your store’s quantity limit settings by visiting:

  • Shopify Admin → Settings → Checkout
